K92 Mining appoints Robert Smillie as Vice President

K92 Mining Inc. has appointed Robert Smillie as its new Vice President of Exploration. This change was announced on March 20, 2025, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Andrew Kohler, who served as the Interim Vice President of Exploration, will return to his role as Chief Geologist. Robert Smillie brings over 35 years of experience in the mining industry. He has focused on mineral exploration, especially in epithermal gold and copper-gold systems. His previous work includes senior positions in various countries in the Asia Pacific region, such as Australia and Papua New Guinea. One of Smillie’s significant achievements was at Ok Tedi Mining in Papua New Guinea. There, he and his team discovered a major copper-gold deposit at the Townsville project, which is the company's most important find in more than 30 years. He has also led large exploration programs with substantial budgets. Mr. Smillie holds degrees in business and geology. He is recognized as a Fellow of both the Society of Economic Geologists and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. K92 Mining operates the Kainantu Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea and focuses on gold, copper, and silver production. The company aims to become a Tier 1 mid-tier producer through plant expansions and ongoing exploration efforts.
