Kanlaon volcano erupts three times, releasing ash plumes in the Philippines

Kanlaon volcano on Negros island erupted three times on Saturday morning, October 19, releasing light-gray ash plumes. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) noted these events occurred at 6:41 a.m., 7:01 a.m., and 8:01 a.m. The ash plumes reached about 500 meters above the crater and drifted southwest. Ash was reported in nearby areas, including Barangays Yubo and Ara-al in La Carlota City. On October 18, the volcano emitted 2,769 tons of sulfur dioxide, lower than the average of 4,133 tons per day since its last eruption in June. Phivolcs has maintained Alert Level 2 and advised the public to avoid the four-kilometer danger zone.
