Kano State hires 54 health scholars from India
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced automatic employment for 54 postgraduate scholars who studied health courses in India. This decision aims to strengthen the healthcare sector in the state. The scholars, who participated in a state-funded scholarship program, will join the Kano State Civil Service. The governor made the announcement during an event held for the returning students on March 23, 2025. Governor Yusuf emphasized the government's commitment to retaining skilled professionals for better healthcare services. He promised a supportive work environment, including a minimum wage of ₦71,000 and improved allowances for healthcare workers. The governor also addressed concerns about past scholarship recipients seeking jobs outside Kano. He encouraged the new graduates to apply their skills to tackle major health challenges, including maternal mortality and sickle cell anaemia. In addition, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to the foreign scholarship program started by his predecessor. Last year, 1,000 students were sent abroad, with 418 graduating from institutions in India and Uganda. Among the newly employed, there are 36 medical doctors and 11 pharmacists. Kabiru Getso, from the Kano State Scholarship Board, congratulated the scholars on their academic achievements. Dr. Yusuf Abdulmalik Abubakar, speaking for the graduates, expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by the Kano State Government.
