Kansas City Current wins 2-0, remains undefeated
Temwa Chawinga scored for the Kansas City Current, helping the team stay unbeaten with a 2-0 win over the Washington Spirit on Saturday in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Lo'eau LaBonta opened the scoring for Kansas City with a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Chawinga, the league's reigning MVP, sealed the game just before time expired. Her goal came from a fast break that started with a long pass from Hallie Mace. The match attracted a sold-out crowd of 19,254 fans at Audi Field. In other NWSL action, the Seattle Reign defeated North Carolina Courage 2-1. Jordyn Bugg, at just 18 years old, scored her first professional goal with a powerful shot from outside the box. Jess Fishlock also made history with her 200th appearance for the Reign. Bay FC beat Racing Louisville 2-0, with rookie Karlie Lema making a stunning run to score the team's second goal. Joelle Anderson had scored earlier for Bay FC. The San Diego Wave won 3-2 against the Utah Royals. Gia Corley scored the winning goal late in the game after intercepting a poor goal kick. The Royals tied the game twice but could not hold off the Wave's attack.
