Karachi faces rabies crisis with over 8,000 cases
Karachi is experiencing a rabies crisis, with over 8,000 dog-bite cases reported this year at three major hospitals. Six people have died from rabies, which is preventable with timely vaccination and treatment. Many bite victims, especially in low-income areas, do not receive prompt care due to a lack of vaccines at local health centers. This delay can be fatal, as rabies has no cure once symptoms appear. To address the issue, the Sindh health department needs to ensure adequate vaccine supplies at all public hospitals. A mass dog vaccination campaign is also necessary to effectively control rabies transmission.
