Karachi man arrested for setting wife on fire
The Karachi Police have arrested a man suspected of setting his wife on fire during a dispute over infidelity. The incident occurred in Mehran Town, part of the Korangi Industrial Area. Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammed Qais Khan confirmed that the suspect was caught following a raid in Shah Faisal Colony. The attack happened on Saturday night. The victim is currently receiving treatment for serious burns at the Burns Centre of Civil Hospital Karachi. She filed a first information report (FIR) on Sunday, accusing him of attempting to murder her. The couple married about two years ago but did not have children. The wife reported that her husband's behavior changed after their marriage, leading to regular physical abuse. The FIR also mentioned his growing interest in other women. On the night of the incident, the husband returned home late. After she tried to call another woman, he became furious, verbally abused her, and later assaulted her. In an act of rage, he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire before fleeing the scene. In a separate incident on the same day, a woman named Rehmat Begum was allegedly killed by her husband outside a court in Malir. She was fatally stabbed, and her daughter was injured. The police have arrested the perpetrator in that case as well.
