Karen Mason to perform at Birdland, New York

Karen Mason, a well-known Broadway and concert artist, will perform a new cabaret show titled "Karen's Back…at Birdland!" in New York on March 24. This performance is just days before her birthday, and Birdland describes her as "sassy" and "brassy." Mason will share her passion for music and storytelling through songs from her favorite writers. Mason has a rich background in theater. She played the Queen of Hearts in "Wonderland" and was the first to portray Tanya in "Mamma Mia!" She received an Outer Critics Circle Award for her role in "And the World Goes ‘Round" and has performed Off-Broadway in her own show, "Karen Mason Sings Broadway, Beatles and Brian." As a cabaret artist, she has graced stages at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center, along with several others. Last fall, she released her latest album, "Karen Mason And All That Jazz!," which features songs by the famous songwriting duo John Kander and Fred Ebb. This album includes classics like "All That Jazz" and "Maybe This Time," as well as lesser-known pieces. In addition to performing, Mason has a strong connection to Kander and Ebb's music, having first worked with them in "And the World Goes 'Round." She noted that discovering their music opened up new opportunities for her as a performer. She plans to perform a mix of songs at Birdland and will take her show to London next month. Mason is also working on a new piece about her late music director, Brian Lasser, who passed away in 1992. She reflects on their relationship and how it has impacted her life and work.
