Karnataka CM condemns vigilante justice in Malpe incident

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has responded to a violent incident in Malpe, Udupi district. A video showed a woman being tied to a tree and assaulted over allegations of fish theft. The CM expressed his shock and outrage on social media, stating that such actions are unacceptable. He emphasized that taking the law into one’s own hands is not tolerated. He described the behavior seen in the video as inhumane and a serious crime. According to him, Karnataka has a strong police and legal system that can handle issues like theft. Siddaramaiah called on citizens to allow the police to do their job. He confirmed that he has instructed the police to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action. In connection with the incident, Malpe police have arrested three individuals named Lakshmi, Shilpa, and Sundar, and have taken another person into custody. The police have stated that their investigation is ongoing.
