Karnataka confident in Mekedatu project court case
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed confidence that Karnataka will receive justice regarding the Mekedatu project. This comment came after Tamil Nadu Minister Durai Murugan said they would oppose the project. Shivakumar emphasized that water access is a right for Karnataka. He mentioned that Karnataka has had previous discussions with Tamil Nadu about water issues. Now, the matter is in court, and Shivakumar believes the verdict will be fair. He urged Tamil Nadu to present its arguments in court. Regarding the BJP's request for him to convince Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Shivakumar questioned why former leaders had not secured needed approvals for the project earlier. He stated that Mekedatu would actually benefit Tamil Nadu by reducing water wastage. On a different topic, Shivakumar responded to the BJP's claims about illegal phone tapping of Congress leaders. He recalled that while he was in jail, there were reports of phone tapping involving prominent figures. He called for the BJP to release findings from a previous investigation by the CBI before discussing the tapping allegations further.
