Karnataka court approves Cauvery aarti at Sankey Tank

The Karnataka High Court has approved the Cauvery aarti event at Sankey Tank, set to take place on Friday. The decision came after the court looked into an application by advocate Geetha Misra, who had concerns about the city's lakes. Chief Justice NV Anjaria and Justice KV Aravind allowed the event to proceed after the advocate general and BWSSB representatives assured that it would comply with the law. They emphasized the need to manage public movement properly to ensure safety during the event. The court also confirmed that no food or commercial sales would occur at the aarti venue. This program is intended as a cultural celebration rather than a commercial activity. Earlier, the court expressed displeasure with the arguments presented by the petitioner, noting that their application lacked proper structure and relevant details. Still, given the concerns about the environment around Sankey Tank, the court permitted the petitioner to present additional comments. The event is timed to raise awareness about water conservation. The advocates highlighted that similar events had been successfully held before and emphasized the importance of promoting responsible use and conservation of water resources.
