Karnataka minister seeks approvals for Bengaluru's second airport
Karnataka's Minister for Large & Medium Industries, MB Patil, will travel to Delhi soon to seek approval for a second airport in Bengaluru. This visit comes after the state government shortlisted three potential sites for the new airport. The sites include Bidadi on Mysuru Road, Harohalli on Kanakapura Road, and Solur, located between Nelamangala and Kunigal. Patil announced that officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are expected to inspect these sites before giving final approval. He stated that after the legislative assembly session, he will meet with officials from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to discuss the proposed locations. The selected sites are all within 50 km of Bengaluru, ensuring easy access for passengers. Patil mentioned that the Kanakapura Road site is particularly advantageous due to its proximity to Metro, NICE Road, and Mysuru Expressway. He emphasized that the state will provide land, but private investors will need to assess the feasibility before developing the airport. Patil also highlighted that the decision on the airport's location will focus on ensuring connectivity and supporting the city's growth and industrial needs. He assured that the selection will be based on merit and not influenced by external pressures.
