While she lost 20 pounds using the medication, she credits 80 pounds to lifestyle and diet changes since her diabetes diagnosis in 2017. Bates emphasized the hard work involved in her weight loss journey, especially during the pandemic. She shared that her family history of diabetes motivated her to make significant changes to her eating habits and overall health. In addition to her diet, Bates is now focusing on establishing a workout routine while filming her new project, Matlock. She plans to use a treadmill and may try Pilates but prefers to exercise alone without a trainer.
