Kay Flock convicted of RICO charges in Bronx shootings
Kay Flock, a Bronx drill rapper, was convicted of multiple federal charges this week. His charges include attempted murder and racketeering conspiracy linked to a fatal shooting in 2021. The shooting involved the death of Hwascar Hernandez, a 24-year-old man who was killed outside a barbershop. The jury reached their verdict after two days of deliberation. Kay Flock, whose real name is Kevin Perez, was found guilty on several counts, including use of a firearm resulting in death. Despite the serious nature of the charges, Perez celebrated the outcome on social media, claiming he "beat the top count" and made the judge emotional. The shootings connected to Perez and his associates occurred between 2020 and 2022. Prosecutors described him as the leader of a street gang known as Sev Side / DOA. They said Perez created fear in the community through violence and aggressive rap lyrics. Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky stated that Perez can no longer hide behind his music and will be held responsible for his actions. He emphasized the commitment to tackling gang violence in the city. Perez is set to be sentenced on July 16.
