Keep bowl of water for smoother, fuel-efficient driving
Motoring experts are advising petrol and diesel car owners to place a bowl of water on their passenger seat. This unusual suggestion aims to help drivers save fuel. The idea is that a bowl of water encourages a smooth driving style. Drivers are encouraged to drive slowly and steadily instead of accelerating quickly or braking hard. While this may take longer, it uses less fuel. The RAC has recently forecasted a possible drop in fuel prices. After months of increases, they predict a reduction of at least 6p per litre for petrol and 3p per litre for diesel in March. Experts from Vanarama suggest that using the bowl of water technique helps improve driving habits. They advise against revving the engine too much and recommend shifting through the gears gently. Nick Zapolski, founder of ChooseMyCar.com, explained the practical benefit of this strategy. He said that if you drive too fast or brake suddenly, the water will spill. This visual reminder can help drivers stay aware and drive more carefully. Small cereal bowls filled to about an inch from the top are recommended for best results.
