Kensington meeting showcases Waugh’s Midway Championships contenders
Trainer Kim Waugh is preparing for the upcoming Midway Championships with her horses. The $1 million race will occur on April 12. Waugh has already qualified two horses and hopes to add more in the next few days. On Wednesday, her horse Mogul Monarch will run in the TAB Handicap at Kensington. This race will be his final preparation before the Midway Championships. Recently, Mogul Monarch finished second in a race at Gosford. Despite this, Waugh praised his effort, saying he fought hard against tougher competition. Waugh is also preparing Bojangles for a race at Rosehill on Saturday. Bojangles has recently run well in his races, but he has faced challenges due to poor starting positions. Waugh hopes that he can end his luck with barriers on Saturday. In related news, some two-year-old horses, including Skyhook, are getting a break after their races. Skyhook finished seventh in the recent Golden Slipper, a major race for young horses. Other trainers are also preparing their horses for the final qualifying races this weekend. John Sargent is hoping to qualify two horses, Harlow Mist and French Ruler, for the Midway Championships. This will be their last chance to secure a spot in the race, which will feature 15 competitors. Sargent believes the upcoming race will give his horses a good opportunity to qualify.
