Kent seeks government funding for landslip repairs
The leader of Kent County Council is seeking a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner. The council wants to discuss funding for repairs needed after a landslip closed a busy road two years ago. Galley Hill Road in Swanscombe suffered significant damage due to a landslip in April 2023. Major repair work is still required. Roger Gough, the council leader, expressed the need for financial support to continue the repairs. A public meeting is scheduled for Friday evening at the Heritage Community Hall in Swancombe. Local MP Jim Dickson and other council representatives will attend. County councillor Thomas Mallon mentioned that they are now in the planning stage for the repairs. Currently, the area around the landslip is fenced off. CCTV is monitoring the site, and diversions remain in place to keep traffic safe. Mallon remarked that after the plans are accepted, they will seek bids to understand the repair costs. He emphasized that Kent County Council cannot handle the costs alone and will need government assistance.
