The Kerala government has approved a ₹52.12 crore project to restore power supply in areas affected by landslides in Wayanad district. This project will also provide electricity to new model townships for the survivors. According to the plan, ₹22.52 crore will be used to restore power to the Chooralmala disaster area. Another ₹23 crore will help supply electricity to the proposed townships. Additionally, ₹6.5 crore will be spent on an underground cable network that will be controlled by a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. The State Power department stated that this project aims to improve the electrical infrastructure in the region. This will help with rehabilitation efforts for those affected by the landslide. The funds for the project will come from the State Disaster Management Fund. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to lay the foundation stone for the Elstone estate township on March 27. This township is being built for survivors of the landslide that occurred on July 30, 2024. The proposal also includes a second estate, Nedumpala, which may be used if more space is needed. The work involves laying underground cables and constructing a new 110 kV substation at the township. This will ensure reliable power supply to the residents. The project includes the construction of a control room and an administration block to support electricity distribution.
