Kerala college tourism clubs tasked with promoting destinations
Tourism clubs on college campuses play an important role in promoting new travel destinations, according to Kerala's Minister for Tourism and Public Works, P.A. Mohamed Riyas. He spoke at the State Workshop and Leadership Meet for Tourism Clubs at the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies. Riyas highlighted that over 500 campuses in the state have these clubs, which significantly impact tourism. He urged students to act as brand ambassadors and to use their skills to boost the tourism sector. He also emphasized the need for effective marketing to attract visitors. To support this initiative, a state-level competition will be held for club members to create short videos and reels showcasing new tourist spots. Additionally, the government plans to develop a map for high-range tourism activities like trekking and hiking. Riyas stressed the importance of maintaining tourism sites, focusing on cleanliness and waste management. He announced a mass cleaning drive for March 30 to help keep these areas tidy. Anoop Ambika, CEO of the Kerala Startup Mission, spoke about opportunities in tourism startups. He encouraged clubs to identify exciting spots in their districts and consider using technology to improve these locations. KSUM is open to providing financial support for promising innovative ideas. Students from various colleges attended the workshop.
