Kerala commission finalizes 25-year urban development policy
The Kerala Urban Policy Commission held its final meeting on March 24 to develop a long-term urban policy for the state. This plan aims to guide development over the next 25 years. During the meeting, the importance of effective spatial planning was emphasized. The commission stressed that officials who will implement the new policy need proper training. There is also a call to use land more effectively, taking into account existing restrictions on land use. The commission discussed the need for innovative solutions for wastewater disposal. Housing issues for the growing number of migrant workers are also a priority in the new policy. Additionally, planners will consider climate change and the cultural features of Kerala when drafting the policy. Notable attendees at the meeting included Local Self-Governments Minister M.B. Rajesh and Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan. The final report will be submitted to the government after this sitting.
