Kerala eases land transaction rules for K-Rail project

The revenue minister of Kerala, K Rajan, announced that there are no restrictions on land transactions linked to the K-Rail project. He explained that only one part of the law about land acquisition has been publicized, which means buying, selling, or mortgaging land can continue without any obstacles. Rajan pointed out that major issues typically arise later in the acquisition process, specifically when a certain notification is issued. This process includes steps like environmental studies and public hearings. He assured that the K-Rail project has not reached this stage yet, and any concerns will be handled as they come up. Additionally, the minister spoke about a new package aimed at helping those affected by land acquisition for the Kannur airport. Those who lost their land will receive compensation based on a calculation from the past seven years. Rajan also mentioned that a digital resurvey is in progress. This will unify land measurements in Kerala and allow for accurate assessments without needing to visit sites physically.
