Kerala High Court denies bail to lawyer accused of rape
The Kerala High Court has denied bail to a 58-year-old lawyer, Noushad, who is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl. The court emphasized the seriousness of the accusations, stating that if true, it would be a disgrace to the legal profession. The allegations claim that in 2022, Noushad invited the minor and her aunt to a hotel in Kozhenchery. He allegedly forced the girl to drink alcohol and then sexually assaulted her. The victim reported that the abuse continued over time, and it happened with her aunt's awareness. Noushad faces several charges under Indian law, including rape and sexual assault of a minor. He denies the allegations, claiming the accusations are attempts to damage his reputation and that the family has previously made similar complaints for money. However, the public prosecutor argued that there was clear evidence of his guilt, stating that releasing him on bail could endanger the victim. The court agreed, finding that there was enough evidence against Noushad and that the bail request could not be granted due to legal restrictions protecting minor victims. In its ruling, the court expressed sympathy for the victim, highlighting her desire to continue her education and pursue a career as a forensic surgeon. The court supported her aspirations, noting that society stands behind her as she works toward her goals.
