Kerala High Court urges Centre to classify Wayanad landslides by month’s end

The Kerala High Court has ordered the central government to classify the Wayanad landslides as L3 (severe) by the end of November. This follows a petition regarding the July 30 disaster, which resulted in 231 deaths and 47 missing persons. The court emphasized the urgent need for funds to aid rehabilitation efforts for those affected. The Union government has assured the court that a decision on the classification will be made soon, although a committee responsible for this has not yet met. Despite previous financial support, the advocate general noted that no additional funds have been promised by the Union government. The court will reconvene next Friday to hear the government's response on further assistance.
