Kerala's FYUP faces significant implementation challenges
The Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) in Kerala, launched in July 2024, is facing significant challenges due to rushed implementation and inadequate infrastructure. Universities report that the syllabus was hastily prepared, leading to confusion and incomplete resources. Concerns have been raised about the lack of training for educators and the absence of necessary facilities for a comprehensive learning experience. Many subjects remain unprepared, and the promised re-examinations have not occurred, causing frustration among students and faculty. In contrast to Kerala, neighboring states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have opted not to implement the FYUP, citing the need for better planning. Kerala's version of the program also differs by allowing students to exit only after three years, unlike other states that offer annual exit options.
