Keralite family celebrates Malabari iftar traditions in Abu Dhabi
In Abu Dhabi, a Keralite family from the Malabar region is celebrating Ramadan with a unique iftar experience. Although they are far from their hometown of Kozhikode, they manage to blend traditional food, culture, and a spirit of sharing during the holy month. Masroora KK, who has lived in Abu Dhabi with her husband and two young children for over ten years, shared how she keeps their traditions alive. "I learned a lot about cooking from my mother and grandmother," she said. Even though they are away from home, she feels connected to her roots through the meals she prepares. She often makes video calls to her family for cooking tips. Her husband, Nisar KK, enjoys breaking their fast with family and friends. He noted the strong community spirit in the UAE, where many iftar gatherings take place. "It feels just like home when we break our fast together," he mentioned. The couple often spends their evenings hosting others and sharing meals. For iftar, they prepare signature dishes like Kozhikodan biryani, mutton curry, and various Keralite snacks. Masroora has improved her cooking skills since moving to the UAE and takes pride in providing healthy meals for her family. As the day ends, the family gathers to celebrate, sharing food and enjoying each other's company. They embrace the essence of Ramadan, which is all about community and togetherness.
