Broadcaster Kevin Harlan showcased his quick thinking during a recent NCAA Tournament game between North Carolina and Ole Miss. This was a first-round matchup in March Madness. North Carolina entered the tournament as the 11th seed. Despite a tough regular season, they earned their spot. However, the team faced criticism for being included in the tournament. They had to play in an early round before the official bracket was set. During the game, with Ole Miss leading 41-23, a player chased down a ball that was going out of bounds. Harlan, who was announcing at the time, had to react fast. He deftly deflected the ball away from his broadcasting partner, Stan Van Gundy, while narrating the moment on air. Harlan's call was lively and entertaining. He exclaimed, “Saves the ball with a leap. Knocked out of bounds, deflected by me." Van Gundy, impressed by Harlan’s reflexes, praised his quick deflection after watching the replay. Even with a strong effort from RJ Davis, who scored 15 points for North Carolina, the Tar Heels could not overcome Ole Miss. The Rebels won the game and will advance to face No. 3 Iowa in the next round.
