Khanna and Chotrani advance in Indian Open 2025
Tanvi Khanna and Veer Chotrani moved into the second round of the Indian Open 2025 squash tournament on Monday in Mumbai. Khanna won her match against Toby Tse from Hong Kong China with a score of 3-1. She will next face top seed Akanksha Salunkhe. Chotrani, the eighth seed, had a dominant performance, defeating Suraj Kumar Chand 3-0 in just 30 minutes. Unfortunately, Om Semwal and Nirupama Dubey both lost their matches. Semwal was beaten by Kareem El Torkey of Egypt, while Dubey put up a tough fight but lost to Nour Ramy, also from Egypt. The tournament's opening day featured several Egyptian players achieving victories. Helen Tang from Hong Kong China won her match against Japan’s Erisa Sano Herring, while Colombia's Matias Knudsen easily defeated Malaysia's Mohammad Syafiq Kamal. In other matches, Ziad Ibrahim from Egypt won against Switzerland’s David Bernet in a close contest. Salma El Alfy of Egypt overcame Japan’s Risa Sugimoto, and Malak Fathy demonstrated her skills by winning in just 23 minutes against French player Lea Barbeau. The day also included matches from players like Ameeshenraj Chandaran and Duncan Lee, where Chandaran emerged victorious. Spanish player Sofía Mateos and Brazil's Diego Gobbi also secured wins in their matches later in the day.
