Kherki Daula toll plaza relocation under consideration in Gurugram
Officials from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recently inspected a 28-acre site in Pachgaon village. They are considering shifting the Kherki Daula toll plaza to this location. This move comes after a long-standing demand from local residents, who have faced traffic jams due to rapid urbanization. In January 2024, the GMDA acquired the land from the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC). The inspection followed a meeting in Delhi, where a senior official from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways directed the NHAI to explore this shift. However, there are concerns about reluctance from the NHAI. An official mentioned that the toll plaza is an important source of revenue, which could complicate the move. The NHAI indicated that they will prepare a feasibility report but did not provide further comments on the policy matters involved. The Kherki Daula toll plaza has been a source of frustration for commuters traveling to and from Manesary. GMDA Chief Engineer Arun Dhankhar and NHAI officials, including Regional Officer Mohd Saifi, discussed the shifting possibilities at the site. Recently, the concession period for the toll on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway ended. The road is now considered public-funded. MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari has previously stated that the government would shift the toll plaza if the Haryana government provides suitable land. Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh plans to discuss this issue with Gadkari in an upcoming meeting.
