King Charles owns Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland
King Charles has access to many impressive royal homes, including a property valued at £24 million known as Hillsborough Castle. This grand house is located in the village of Hillsborough, County Down, Ireland. Despite its name, Hillsborough Castle is an 18th-century Georgian country house. King Charles and Queen Camilla have visited, but they have never lived there. The property serves as a residence for royal family members when visiting Northern Ireland and is also the official home of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. The castle underwent a major refurbishment that cost around £24 million. This work was completed by Historic Royal Palaces, which has managed the site since 2014. The term "castle" in this context is somewhat misleading. Many grand country homes in the past were referred to as castles by the Anglo-Irish upper class, which is how Hillsborough received its name. Today, King Charles and Queen Camilla are in Belfast for several royal engagements. They visited Commercial Court, known as the most attractive street in Northern Ireland, and were seen smiling during their visit.
