Kiran Rao reflects on directing Aamir Khan in Dhobi Ghat and their communication challenges

Filmmaker Kiran Rao discussed her experience directing her then-husband Aamir Khan in her film Dhobi Ghat. She admitted to snapping at him during production, feeling pressure from the film's small budget and her debut as a director. Kiran acknowledged that she took her frustrations out on Aamir, who was both the producer and a lead actor. She noted that she was patient with the rest of the cast but felt comfortable expressing her stress with him. Aamir eventually requested Kiran to treat him like any other actor, asking for calm communication and consideration of his suggestions. They divorced in 2021, but he recently produced her film Laapataa Ladies.
