A brewery in Kitchener has launched a special beer in honor of World Down Syndrome Day. The new brew, called AJ & Zeus Lemongrass Pale Ale, involves help from AJ Tamming, a TWB Brewing employee with Down syndrome. Part of the beer's sales will support the Waterloo Wellington Down Syndrome Society. AJ & Zeus Lemongrass Pale Ale is named after Tamming and his dog Zeus. Tamming has worked at TWB for over five years. He enjoys his job and hopes to inspire others. “It feels really good to make the most popular beer around here,” he said, laughing. Owner Dan Murray praises Tamming's positive energy. He believes it is important to raise awareness about Down syndrome. Murray wants to ensure everyone has equal job opportunities. “Having AJ here is great,” he commented. People with Down syndrome often face challenges in finding jobs and may be more likely to be let go during layoffs. Advocate Janine Oosterveld stressed that many community supports can help integrate people with Down syndrome into the workforce. Tamming is also a volunteer with the Down Syndrome Society. He was a board member and is involved in various programs. Oosterveld noted that Tamming is a leader in promoting inclusion in the community. Tamming wants to continue his job at TWB. “It's my home and my family,” he said. AJ & Zeus Lemongrass Pale Ale is available at the brewery for those who want to support this cause.
