Kolkata airport marks 100 years of history with celebrations and notable milestones
Kolkata's airport, now known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, is celebrating 100 years of operations. The airport has hosted notable figures, including Queen Elizabeth II and Amelia Earhart, and has seen significant aircraft landings, such as the Concorde and Beluga XL. The Airports Authority of India announced centenary celebrations starting today, featuring exhibitions of the airport's history. The airport has evolved from a strategic stopover to a major aviation hub, while also facing challenges, including accidents and mishaps. The celebrations will run until March 29, 2025, and include displays of historical photographs and documents in the terminal. The new integrated terminal, opened in 2013, enhances the airport's role as a gateway to East and Northeast India.
