Kolkata facilities house 2,000 cancer patients yearly
Two facilities in Kolkata are now providing affordable accommodation for cancer patients and their families, supporting over 2,000 patients annually. These homes, located in Sreebhumi and Tollygunge, charge between Rs 20 and Rs 130 per day. Gandhi Seva Niwas in Sreebhumi has 27 rooms and is expanding to accommodate more patients. Niramoy Bhawan in Tollygunge offers 13 rooms and four halls, helping families manage treatment costs while staying in the city. Both facilities complement the state's Swasthya Sathi scheme, which covers treatment expenses. They aim to reduce the burden of accommodation costs for patients traveling from various districts and even from Bangladesh.
