Kolkata IPL fans face parking restrictions at Eden Gardens
Kolkata: IPL fans may face challenges when trying to park for upcoming matches at Eden Gardens. The Army, which manages the Maidan area, has prohibited parking on this green space. This decision was communicated to the Kolkata Police, making alternate parking arrangements difficult. In previous years, fans commonly parked vehicles in the Maidan during matches. However, the Local Military Authority pointed out that Kolkata Police failed to get the necessary permission for parking this year. On Saturday, about 3,000 cars were parked there when Kolkata Knight Riders faced Royal Challengers Bangalore. A letter from the military authority specified that the Maidan cannot be used for parking because it is needed for military training. It noted that rules for using defense land have not been followed, prompting this ban. During IPL season, Kolkata Police typically issues parking stickers for various locations. These include areas near Bangabasi College and CAB, among others. These spots can hold hundreds of cars, but without access to the Maidan, options are limited. CAB officials claimed they were not aware of the Army's new directive. They argued that parking and security are the responsibility of the Kolkata Police. Officials say the lack of parking options could lead to traffic disruptions, particularly if cars are redirected to other roads.
