Kolkata plans to clear 100-day work wage dues
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim announced on Saturday that the city aims to pay overdue wages to workers under the 100-day wage scheme within three days. These workers have not received their pay since January, causing financial hardships for many families. During a meeting at the KMC House, CPM councillor Nandita Roy raised concerns about the delays in payments. She emphasized that these workers play a crucial role in keeping the city clean but have been neglected. Roy noted that the lack of wages has made it hard for them to support their families. A source from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation's Solid Waste Management department highlighted the importance of these workers. They are essential for household waste collection, and a lack of participation from them could affect cleanliness in local neighborhoods.
