Kolkata student Arnab Paul tops national GATE exam

Arnab Paul, a final-year biotechnology student at Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata, has achieved the top score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) nationwide. He aims to study bioprocess engineering at IIT Madras. Originally, Paul wanted to pursue a career in sports, as he is a national-level athlete. However, an accident on his bike last year changed his plans, leading him to focus more on his studies. Paul expressed that GATE is essential for gaining admission to a Master's program and that studying at IIT is his goal. Despite feeling dissatisfied with his performance in mock tests, Paul was pleased to learn he secured the first position nationally. He has a strong academic background, having been the top student at his school from class V to X before prioritizing sports in class IX. Paul credits his success in engineering to his twin brother, who is studying medicine at NRS, encouraging his own educational journey. The principal of Heritage Institute of Technology, Basab Choudhury, called Paul’s achievement inspiring for all students at the school.
