Korean Air finalizes $32 billion deal with Boeing
Korean Air has officially confirmed a deal to buy up to 50 aircraft from Boeing, valued at around $32 billion. This announcement was made by U.S. officials on Monday. The deal includes widebody planes that will be equipped with engines from GE Aerospace. The signing ceremony took place last Friday and was hosted by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. He emphasized the deal's importance for American manufacturing and the economy. Lutnick stated that both he and President Trump are committed to supporting initiatives that will help revitalize U.S. industries. Korean Air had already ordered 40 Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft last year. This new agreement provides an option to purchase an additional 10 787 planes. The first delivery from this deal is expected to occur in 2028. This announcement comes during a period when the Trump administration is enforcing tariffs on imports. These tariffs aim to strengthen domestic industries and manufacturing. Boeing, meanwhile, has faced challenges including manufacturing delays and safety issues in recent years.
