Kosovo leader warns of peace risks in Balkans if Russia wins in Ukraine
Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti warned that a Russian victory in Ukraine could threaten 25 years of peace in the Balkans. He stated that this could embolden Serbia and endanger Kosovo, Bosnia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. Kurti emphasized the importance of Western support for Ukraine against Russian aggression. He noted that the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia remains tense, with recent violence highlighting ongoing conflicts. Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008, is seeking EU membership. However, five EU countries still do not recognize Kosovo, although Spain recently began recognizing Kosovo passports. Parliamentary elections are set for February 2024.
