Kottaimedu offers diverse iftar snacks during Ramzan
In Coimbatore, the Kottaimedu area is lively during Ramadan as people gather for iftar, the evening meal to break the fast. The streets are filled with delicious smells from various eateries. Eswaran Kovil Street is particularly busy, featuring snacks and drinks that attract many visitors. One popular choice is the mini bun sandwiches from Varna Café. These small buns are filled with either egg or vegetable mix and are quite affordable, priced at ₹10 and ₹15. The café prepares for iftar by setting up a special counter, and the sandwiches often sell out quickly. Another must-try is the nonbu kanji from Kaima Kanji Shop. This comforting dish combines lentils, biryani rice, and minced beef. It takes a whole day to prepare and is unique to this shop, with a serving costing ₹40. For drinks, mohabbat ka sharbat is a favorite. This refreshing blend of milk, sugar, rose petals, and watermelon is available at many juice shops, selling around 30 liters daily at Fruizy for ₹20 a glass. Kebabs are also popular in Kottaimedu, particularly at the Bangalore Steaks and Kebabs. They offer various chicken and beef kebabs, with prices ranging from ₹80 to ₹140. The kebabs are known for their rich flavor, thanks to special spice mixes. Lastly, there's the Arabian egg cake, a unique dessert available at Juicy Fort. These sweet, soft cakes are served in small cubes for ₹20 each, adding a delightful treat to the iftar experience at Kottaimedu.
