Kozhikode drug peddler hospitalized after swallowing MDMA

A suspected drug dealer was hospitalized after swallowing MDMA to evade police in Thamarassery, Kozhikode district. The man, identified as A.K. Fayiz, was taken to Kozhikode Medical College on March 21, 2025. Doctors confirmed that Fayiz consented to undergo surgery to remove the drug the next day. Scans showed he had indeed consumed MDMA, but he was deemed well enough for the procedure. Fayiz had been arrested after allegedly threatening his wife and child. Locals reported his violent behavior to the police. This incident follows another case from March 8, where Iyyadan Shanid, a local drug peddler, died after swallowing a large amount of MDMA while trying to flee police custody. In response to these incidents, authorities have stepped up efforts against drug trafficking in rural Kozhikode.
