Kukrail Night Safari construction starts in April 2025
Construction of the Kukrail Night Safari, India's first night safari, is set to start in April. This project will be developed with help from Bernard Arc, the same agency that created the first night safari in Singapore. The first phase of construction is expected to take 24 months to complete. The night safari will include 38 animal enclosures, a theater, an art gallery, and a cafeteria. It will also feature an administration block and various facilities for staff, including residential areas and a veterinary hospital. The safari will have animals like Indian lions, leopards, and blackbucks, among others. To improve safety, a modern CCTV system will be installed throughout the park. The project will also include pathways, landscaping, parking, and sports facilities. A tram service will be part of the night safari, allowing visitors to explore different areas. The government has approved a budget of over ₹ 1,500 crore for the entire project, with Phase 1 alone costing about ₹ 631 crore. The night safari will cover 65,254 square meters of Kukrail forest, and the total project will occupy around 855 acres, with most of the land remaining natural. The detailed project report was presented in November 2024, after digital surveys were conducted in 2022. Once the night safari is built, the existing day zoo will move from Hazratganj to the Kukrail area.
