L-plater dies in crash near Newcastle
A tragic car accident occurred at Black Hill, near Newcastle, resulting in the death of a learner driver and serious injuries to another teenager. The incident happened around 9pm on John Renshaw Drive, where a Holden Commodore and a Ford utility collided. The 17-year-old driver of the Holden died at the scene. Another 17-year-old boy, who was sitting in the back of the car, was critically injured. He has been airlifted to Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment. A 56-year-old man, a front passenger in the Holden, was also taken to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital but is in stable condition. The driver of the Ford utility, a 62-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and is undergoing mandatory testing at the hospital. Police have set up a crime scene to investigate the cause of the crash.
