Lakers enhance offense with Doncic and Reaves' movement
The Los Angeles Lakers are using new strategies to maximize the skills of their players, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. With more movement in their offense, both players are becoming harder to defend against. Before a loss on March 10, Lakers coach JJ Redick expressed a desire to incorporate off-ball movement into their regular plays. This strategy paid off in a home victory against the San Antonio Spurs, where the Lakers had 34 assists on 44 field goals. In their game against the Spurs, Reaves benefited from multiple screens, allowing him to find open space and create scoring opportunities. He pointed out that not many teams defend against off-ball actions, making it a unique challenge for opponents. If defenders overcommit, it can lead to easy baskets. Doncic also praised the new offensive approach, noting that it makes his game easier. The Lakers are working on effective plays that utilize their main ball handlers like Doncic and Reaves, allowing them to score more efficiently. The Lakers believe that once their star players, LeBron James and Rui Hachimura, return from injuries, they will have even more offensive options available. This shift in strategy could enhance their performance as they aim to compete at a higher level in upcoming games.
