Former Hong Kong lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting has appealed his conviction related to the Yuen Long riot. He received a 37-month sentence for his involvement in the violent event that occurred on July 21, 2019. Lam, 47, was found guilty by District Court Judge Stanley Chan Kwong-chi last December. He is one of four defendants to file an appeal. The others are Wan Chung-ming, Marco Yeung Long, Yip Kam-sing, and Yu Ka-ho. They were also convicted and received jail terms ranging from over two years to three years. The appeal was submitted to the High Court on Tuesday. A hearing date for Lam's appeal at the Court of Appeal has not been set yet. Currently, Lam is serving an additional six years and nine months in prison for subversion due to his role in an unauthorized "primary" election in 2020. He is also awaiting the outcome of an appeal for that conviction.
