A school bus driver in Lancaster County has been cited after a crash that injured several students on Friday morning. The accident occurred on Spirit Road, where the bus was reportedly going too fast and veered off the road. There were 14 students on the bus, heading to Andrew Jackson middle and high schools. Six of them were taken to the hospital, and one may need surgery. The transportation director for Lancaster County schools said that all but one of the injured students have been released from the hospital. A local resident, Steve Dingler, described how the bus ended up in his brother’s front yard. He believes it was fortunate that the bus did not hit a nearby tree or the corner of the house. The South Carolina Highway Patrol cited the bus driver for driving too fast for the conditions. The school district announced that the driver is on paid leave while an investigation takes place. Disciplinary action could follow based on the investigation's findings.
