Lansing bridge demolition causes weekend traffic disruptions
Lansing is set for traffic disruptions this weekend due to bridge demolition. The Mount Hope Avenue bridge over U.S. 127 will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday. This closure will affect roads in the area. While the bridge is being worked on, one lane will stay closed in each direction on the highway below. This lane restriction will last until fall, affecting traffic from Michigan Avenue to Dunckel Road. Drivers should expect delays and are urged to use alternate routes. The bridge demolition is part of a larger $205 million project aimed at improving U.S. 127/I-496. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is overseeing the work to enhance safety and traffic flow. The funding comes from a bonding program initiated by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to support road projects. As with many construction activities, the schedule may change due to weather conditions. For more updates and information on additional closures, drivers can check the MDOT’s online construction map.
