Large great white shark tracked off Florida coast
A large great white shark named Contender is being tracked off the Florida coast as it heads south for spring break. Weighing over 1,600 pounds and nearly 14 feet long, Contender is the largest shark tracked by OCEARCH. Another shark, named Dold, is also being monitored. Dold is 11 feet long and weighs 761 pounds. Both sharks are expected to pass near Miami while remaining about 40 miles offshore. Shark attacks are rare, with only 28 reported in the U.S. last year. Experts advise swimmers to take precautions, such as avoiding shiny jewelry and swimming at dawn or dusk.
