Lawyers say Garma voluntarily testifies on Duterte-era drug war killings
Lawyers for retired Police Colonel Royina Garma stated she voluntarily testified to the House Quad Committee about drug war killings during the Duterte administration. This follows claims by former police chief Hector Grijaldo that he was pressured to confirm a reward system. Garma's lawyers emphasized that discussions during the inquiry were respectful and professional, denying any coercion. They noted that only two congressmen were actively involved in the dialogue, and no undue influence was observed. Garma previously testified that the police anti-drug campaign was modeled after practices in Davao City, which included monetary rewards for police involved in killings. The Quad Committee chair also affirmed that no coercion occurred in their hearings.
