Lebanon man arrested for hammer assault while on bail

A man from Canaan has been arrested again after allegedly using a hammer to attack someone. This incident happened outside the Lebanon Emergency Winter Shelter on Sunday, March 24. The man, identified as Shawn Mooney, is 37 years old. Police were called to the scene after reports of a fight. They found a crowd in front of the shelter and learned that three people were involved in the altercation. Witnesses said a hammer was used during the fight. Police later found Mooney behind the shelter holding a hammer. He followed police instructions to drop the weapon and was taken into custody. According to police, Mooney hit one man in the head with the hammer and tried to gouge the eyes of another person. The victims received treatment at the scene, and one was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for further care. Mooney was out on bail at the time. He had been arrested earlier on March 11 for failing to register as a sex offender and resisting arrest. After the latest incident, he faces multiple charges, including two counts of second-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. Mooney is currently in the Grafton County House of Corrections and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
