The town of Moncks Corner has appointed Capt. Lee W. Mixon Jr. as the new chief of police. He was officially sworn in on March 21, 2025. Mixon brings over 36 years of law enforcement experience to the role. Mixon's career began in 1989 with the United States Air Force Security Police. He took on various positions, including military working dog handler and security forces supervisor. He also worked with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, focusing on criminal and counterintelligence cases. His military service included deployments to several countries, including Iraq and Saudi Arabia, where he supported major operations. After retiring from the Air Force in 2011, Mixon joined the Charleston Police Department. There, he served as a patrol officer, investigator, and detective. He eventually became a captain at the Moncks Corner Police Department in 2023, where he managed daily operations and engaged in community outreach. Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. expressed confidence in Mixon's leadership. He believes Mixon will protect and serve residents with integrity and excellence. Mixon holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and a bachelor’s in criminology. He has also earned an executive certificate in criminal justice and completed part of a Ph.D. program. Mixon is involved with several professional organizations and is a member of the Moncks Corner Rotary. Mixon and his wife have three children, including two daughters and one son.
