Lesson-Based Assessment app for Indian state schools
The Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) will introduce a new assessment method called Lesson-Based Assessment (LBA) for students in Classes 1 to 10 starting next academic year. This approach aims to improve learning outcomes for school children. Under the LBA system, students will be tested after each lesson. The assessments will use a mobile app created by the Vidya Samiksha Kendra, which is part of a national digital education framework. This technology will help evaluate students' answers efficiently. Surveys have shown that many students struggle with learning, leading to gaps in understanding. While previous assessments have been conducted, issues with identifying learning disabilities remain. This has had a negative impact, especially on results for Class 10 students. To address these issues, LBA will involve informal assessment techniques such as quizzes and multiple-choice questions. The mobile app will quickly assess answer sheets and provide immediate feedback to both teachers and students. This will allow teachers to identify and address areas where students may have difficulty understanding. The DSEL is seeking funding support from both the Union and State governments. This funding is necessary to implement the LBA system effectively. The goal is to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed in their studies.
